De Quervain’s disease De Quervain’s
disease is a painful inflammatory condition of thumb. (Inflammation
(tenosynovitis) of the tendon sheaths of abductor pollicis
longus and extensor pollicis brevis of thumb) at the point
where they cross the styloid process of radius. The cause
is not clear but overuse, any direct injury to thumb, repetitive
stress (grasping) and certain inflammatory conditions like
rheumatoid arthritis. Pain in the outer border (lateral aspect)
of the thump initially later it will spreads to the forearm.
Movements of thump are very painful. It may be associated
with weakness of handgrip.
