PAINFUL ELBOW
CONDITIONS Olecranon bursitis (Minor’s
elbow)
Olecranon bursitis is an inflammation if the bursa underlying
the olecranon process of ulna. The inflammation caused by
repeated stress or trauma to the olecranon process, is the
main cause for olecranon bursitis. Occasionally found in-patients
with rheumatoid arthritis. Less commonly may be due to infection
(Septic bursitis). It causes pain and swelling in the tip
of the elbow. It may be very difficult to place the elbow
in flexed position down on a hard surface due to tenderness.
Physiotherapy treatment for this condition is very effective
and the patient should avoid the strainful activities or use
elbow supports.
