PAINFUL ELBOW
CONDITIONS Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is a painful elbow disorder. This term is misleading
because most people who have it did not get it from playing
tennis. Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis is a condition
when the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender,
usually as a result of a specific strain, overuse, or a direct
bang. Sometimes no specific cause is found. A range of different
activities that involve repeated hand, wrist or forearm movements
can be to blame. These might include using scissors or shears,
gardening, sports that involve lots of throwing, swimming, occupations
that involve repetitive stress or lifting the wrist, such as
plumbing or bricklaying. The treatment for tennis elbow is in
two phases and after Phase I (Pain relief) have been successful,
Phase II, (Prevention of recurrence) is equally as important
and involve stretching and then later strengthening exercises.
