Parkinson's
disease (PD)
Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerativedisorder.
Commonly affects the movements, speech and posture of the body,
characterized by rigidity, resting tremor in hands and difficulty
(slowness) in physical movements, impaired coordination and
postural instability. The cause is unclear but many researchers
believe that several factors like free radicals, aging; environmental
toxins and genetic disorders are the predisposing factors. PD
usually affects the people over the age of 55. Presently there
is no cure for PD but the symptoms can be controlled by medicines
and Rehabilitative programmes like coordination exercises,
walking rhythm trainings, and active free exercise. |
